A couple of other things... New Doc Editing and ITVS will be providing access to last night's recording and some supplementary materials online. I'm not sure when or where, so if you're interested you should contact them. A couple of their best tips were to become clear on your unique relationship to your material and learn how to communicate it. And don't shy away from letting the emotional connection show in your grant proposals. Also, Michele Turnure-Salleo from SFFS said that distribution plans are a key element to your proposal and should be at least 1-2 pages long. They should incorporate a multitude of ideas from broadcast distribution to touring the film festival circuit to online distribution plans. Think it out and have several distribution options in mind when you apply to SFFS (or any of the others) for support. There was a lot more, so I would really encourage anyone interested to find the online resources that accompany the event: outreach@itvs.org.

I watched the program via ITVS' live streaming. I thought the information that they provided was really great, and even though SFFS programming is usually fairly strong, this was the best program I've participated in. The program was dense with insights into both new directions to explore as a documentary filmmaker, as well as what SFFS and ITVS are looking for when they are deciding which projects to support. It was incredibly inspiring, and I went straight from the live stream to scripting some ideas.
