In lieu of a post-holiday slump, I’m excited about a January to include a talk by IDEO CEO Tim Brown at California College of the Arts and a benefit party to send the Design Revolution Roadshow duo off in fine Airstream style. The Altitude Design Summit in Salt Lake presented by the Kirtsy partners is also one that has me counting down the days for its discussions of design and blogging. The talented group on the “building your business” panel I’ll be moderating includes illustrator Sarah Jane Wright, gardener and author Gayla Trail, and designer Victoria Smith (the local woman behind the eye-catching style site SFGirlByBay). Our conversation is to cover the following: Using social media and design to grow an “accidental” small business — hear from experts who’ve might not have started out to grow a business, but made it happen anyway. How important is design to the small business person? And should every small business be using social media?

It conviently aligns with a Utah-based talk by AIGA President Debbie Millman, Sundance coverage, and (selfishly) a chance to see a childhood best friend now living in Park City. Rough stuff, methinks.
