If the long, striking faces in the stop-motion film Coraline have you pining for more handmade figures, the work of Sarah Faber (AKA Black-eyed Suzie) may be up your alley. The Montreal-based artist’s wide-eyed dolls are beautifully displayed in a recent Etsy Handmade Portraits series video by Tara Young. Faber describes being influenced by Gothic novels and Victorian and Elizabethan costumes. But, lest you think it’s all child’s play, the dolls include some darker elements and are said to look as though they’ve “had a few too many Scotchs and tardy makeup.” An ideal way to cater to the tattered goth in you.
